FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE, BUT BE YOURSELF

Steph Curry is an amazing player with great work ethic and I understand wanting to be like him. However, if you have trouble hitting shots even when you’re completely free, why choose to throw over someone’s hands from 30 feet away during a fast-break? Try to master the components of your favorite player when you train, but against your opponent use your best qualities that give you an advantage. Pay attention to details: wrist action when shooting, dribbling, passing the ball or positioning your feet on defense, general positioning. These are not just some phrases made up by the coaches. Mastery of fine details is exactly what defines what we call the mastery difference.

GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

You will never progress if you just keep on doing things that you are comfortable with. Maybe it’s time to stop dominating in pick-up games with guys 3 years younger than you and time to go play with the older guys?

WORK SMARTER THAN OTHERS

You don’t have to spend all day in the gym mindlessly dribbling the basketball. Two intense training sessions with belts, ladders, tennis balls or two basketballs are much better. The goal is to train at game-speed and imitate those situations that happen during real games.

DON’T THINK THAT YOU ARE SMARTER THAN YOUR COACH

Man, you just started to play basketball and you think that the guy with the whistle who’s been around basketball his whole life wishes you bad? Show some respect and for the love of God, just do whatever that the coach asks of you.

LEARN TO ANALYZE

In other words – increase your IQ. Listen to what the coach is saying, understand what is hidden behind his words and masterfully execute it on the court. If you learn how to see a few steps ahead and read the game correctly, you will have a far bigger advantage than you ever thought possible.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR DIET

If you develop healthy eating habits at a young age, you will thank yourself in old age. Do not get excited about supplements too early, it is better to make sure that the food you eat does not lack the most necessary vitamins and minerals. Refresh yourself with water, not lemonade. And of course, a few bananas after physical exertion will help to recover faster.

REST IS PART OF THE JOB

Having more energy will make you much more productive in training. Quality rest restores strength in much shorter time than you can imagine. Try to fall asleep by 11 PM, and if you have a 45-minute nap on the sofa during the day, you will be much more diligent during physical training.

DEFENSE PAYS

Defensive basketball players might not be very popular among girls, but all teams need self-sacrificing players who can make the opposing star score 20 points instead of 30. Especially those teams that are fighting for a championship.

SET CLEAR GOALS AND DON’T STOP UNTIL YOU ACHIEVE THEM

Goals are usually long-term and short-term. Nothing can stop you from dreaming of the NBA. But in the beginning, maybe try to hit 10 three-pointers in a row? Do not leave the gym until you accomplish that. After that, set another goal, gradually working your way up. There is nothing wrong with writing down your goals and starting to systemize them.
